The Argentine scored his side's second goal in their 5-0 thumping of Sevilla, which saw FC Barcelona lift their fourth successive Copa trophy, and their 30th overall.

With his goal, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner equalled Telmo Zarra's record of scoring in five different Spanish Cup finals, which the legendary attacker set for Athletic Bilbao between 1942 and 1950.

The strike was also Messi's 40th goal across all competitions for the 2017/18 campaign, meaning he has now scored 40 times or more in nine successive seasons.

Ronaldo reached his 40th goal in 2017/18 quicker than his rival, but failed to hit that mark in his first season at Los Blancos, when he ended the campaign with 33 strikes, and as a consequence, he is on a run of netting at least 40 goals in eight successive campaigns.
