Nedbank Cup Last 16
Halftime: Cape Town City 0-0 Orlando Pirates
Date: 14 March 2018
Venue: Cape Town Stadium
Cape Town City and Orlando Pirates entered the halftime break of their Nedbank Cup last-16 match at Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday night locked at 0-0.
A mistake in defence by Bradley Ralani gifted Pirates the first real chance on goal in the eighth minute when Justin Shonga stole the ball and drove into the City box, but he saw his 16-yard shot strike the woodwork.
Two minutes later, City had their first significant effort on goal when Ayanda Patosi let fly from 20-yards out, but the Pirates keeper produced a fantastic acrobatic save to deny him.
In the 16th minute, Thami Mkhize met a corner at the back post, but his close-range header was stopped on the line by the Pirates keeper before Happy Jele cleared the danger.
On the half-hour mark, Lyle Lakay dribbled his way past a couple of defenders on his way into the Pirates box from the right side of the field, but his 16-yard shot shaved the wrong side of the crossbar.
In the 40th minute, Pirates almost took the lead when a corner kick found its way to Marshall Munetsi at the back post and he controlled well before curling his 14-yard shot inches wide of the target.
Neither side could find a goal before the break and entered half-time locked at 0-0.
