UEFA Champions League
Result: Manchester United 1-2 Sevilla (1-2 on agg.)
Date: 13 March 2018
Venue: Old Trafford
Manchester United were dumped out of the UEFA Champions League after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Sevilla at Old Trafford in the second leg.
Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial returned from injury, but were only fit enough to start on the bench while Marouane Fellaini was handed a start.
The game got off to a lively start, with Romelu Lukaku going close for the Red Devils while Joaquin Correa headed over inside the opening 15 minutes.
United had to wait until the 37th minute for the next chance of the half as Marouane Fellaini combined with Alexis Sanchez before forcing Sergio Rico into a fine save from 12-yards out.
That proved to be the final chance of the opening stanza as the sides went into the break goalless.
Sergio Rico was called upon five minutes into the second half as the Sevilla shot-stopper pulled off a fine finger-tip to keep out Jesse Lingard's low strike.
Jose Mourinho eventually introduced Pogba on the hour mark, with the Frenchman replacing Fellaini.
Wissam Ben Yedder was introduced on 70 minutes and he made the perfect impact four minutes later when he broke the deadlock with a clinical finish into the bottom corner.
The substitute doubled Sevilla's lead in the 78th minute with a header at the far post, which meant United need to score three goals to advance.
Lukaku pulled a goal back for the Red Devils with five minutes remaining but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation as Sevilla held on for the win to secure their spot in the last eight.
